Backstory

   The day I got my Hogwarts letter will always be the strangest of my life. I was sitting on Daisy's bedroom floor. We were playing a game of Truth or Dare, a muggle game, and then, BANG! We ran out to find an owl lying on the ground. Daisy picked it up off the ground and was about to bring it inside when I put out my hand. "Izzy, what are you doing? My mom's a vet, she can heal it!" Daisy said. "There's something on its leg, genius," I said as nicely as I could at the moment. She untied the letter from its leg and as soon as she did, he flew off.

   She read it out loud. " 'Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore (Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)' This has to be a joke, right?" She asks me. "I don't know, but I'm interested in it. Keep reading!" I urge her. She continues. " 'Dear Izzy Granger, We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. The term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31. Yours sincerely, Minerva McGonagall Deputy Headmistress.'" We exchange looks before she continues. "'UNIFORM First-year students will require 1. Three sets of plain work robes (black) 2. One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear 3.One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar) 4. One winter cloak (black, with silver fastenings) Please note that all pupil's clothes should carry name tags.'" She stops and starts to pant. I walk into the house and fill a glass. I hand it to her and she chugs it.

Wiping her mouth, she reads the next part. "'COURSE BOOKS All students should have a copy of each of the following: The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) by Miranda Goshawk, A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot, Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling, A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore, Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander, and The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble.' It also says you'll need '1 wand,1 cauldron (pewter, standard size 2), 1 set glass or crystal vials, 1 telescope, and 1 set brass scale. Students may also bring an owl OR a cat OR a toad. PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR BROOMSTICK.' Wow, this school has a lot of things!" She finally finishes.

  We were going to London anyway, so we figured we would stop by everywhere we hadn't been. Once we were there, we walked the streets. As we were walking, I saw a sign reading " The Leaky Cauldron." "Stop! I found something!" I said excitedly. I pointed to the sign, but she claimed it was blank. "I'm telling you!! The sign is not blank!" I say annoyed. She and I argued for what seemed like forever until she spoke something that made sense. "OK!! How about this: You go to this place you claim is there, and I keep walking." I think about this for all 3 seconds until we agree. I walk into this building and let me say: it's not the nicest, but it's REALLY cool!! The innkeeper helped me get to where I could buy my things. And the rest is history.
