Background: 

Golden trio era: Their mother died the year before they went to Hogwarts. This was due to Pandora always experimenting with dangerous spells, on Fey. The spell that killed Pandora was meant to kill Fey, but it backfired. Fey thinks this is because Pandora didn't mean it for 100%. Luna was unaware of their abuse, and Fey's father looked the other way. After Pandora died, Xenophilius slowly became more and more crazy, blaming Fey. He wanted to find out how Pandora's torture spells worked, but couldn't find the journal she kept. Fey took it with them and hid it, but then Xenophilius decided he needed a testing subject, which was Fey. With more scars after every summer from the 'punishment' as Xenophilius called it, eventually, after their 3rd year, he was locked away in Azkaban, but not before the damage was done. He required them to excel in school, which they kept up even after he went to Azkaban, never getting less than an O. First out of fear, then as a cover up for the secret they needed to keep, as they and Luna were living with one of the sisters of Pandora, Narcissa Malfoy, they got into some death eater business with a certain dark lord who returned the next year. They, along with Peter Pettigrew and Barty Crouch Jr. were responsible for the return of Voldemort. They took the dark mark right there and then at the graveyard where Cedric Diggory died.

Marauders era: With the wizarding world under a regime of pureblood supremacy, and one parent death while the other was brought up along Orion Black, they grew up walking on glass. When they turned eleven and got their letter, they were excited to be free and learn magic. Going to Hogwarts, there was a lot of pressure of getting into Slytherin, as a Black is supposed to do, while their father's parents were pressuring the Ravenclaw lineage of the Lovegood name. With their brother being three years younger, he watched Fey leave for three terms, while Fey made sure they were living up to the high standards Lucretia Black held. They did, finishing homework before anyone else, taking every class, every curricular class their mother told them to take, finishing tests, exams and assignments never with less than an O. Their friends were not exactly up to their parents standards, but their friends did make them realise how much pressure their parents placed on them. When they finished their N.E.W.T.'s, they went back home one last time, not wanting to go back to the abusive household. They joined the death eater ranks after their fifth year, being forced by their mother at sixteen, in the summer of 1973.
