Magnus Durvos

Backstory

Hello. I am Magnus Durvos.

I am a first year of the Slytherin house. I'm new to the UK and to Hogwarts, but I've got my eye on those house points! I'm excited to meet other students, and very excited for class. I want to learn as much about magic as possible.

I'm in the dueling club, and want to join Slytherin's Quidditch team as a beater.

My parents are American and Norwegian. I was born in the US and lived there for some time before moving to Norway for a few years — but we moved to England just in time for me to start school at Hogwarts. My mum attended Ilvermorny, my dad attended Durmstrang, and here I am at Hogwarts.

I have two brothers: an older squib brother, and a younger magical brother who's going to join Hogwarts in a few years. Bet he's a Hufflepuff.

Wand

Cypress Wood

"Cypress wands are associated with nobility. The great medieval wandmaker, Geraint Ollivander, wrote that he was always honoured to match a cypress wand, for he knew he was meeting a witch or wizard who would die a heroic death. Fortunately, in less bloodthirsty times, the possessors of cypress wands are rarely called upon to lay down their lives, though doubtless many of them would do so if required. Wands of cypress find their soulmates among the brave, the bold and the self-sacrificing: those who are unafraid to confront the shadows in their own and others’ natures."

Dragon Heartstring Core

"Dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most magic power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental."

"In my experience, longer wands might suit taller wizards, but they tend to be drawn to bigger personalities, and those of a more spacious and dramatic style of magic. Neater wands favour more elegant and refined spell-casting. However, no single aspect of wand composition should be considered in isolation of all the others, and the type of wood, the core and the flexibility may either counterbalance or enhance the attributes of the wand’s length."

"Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair – although, again, this factor ought not to be considered separately from the wand wood, core and length, nor of the owner’s life experience and style of magic, all of which will combine to make the wand in question unique."
