Backstory
I know I’m destined for greatness. In fact, I’ll surpass my own expectations. I will accomplish things that are far more important than the little trivialities and frivolous things that everyone else seems to delight in. As my father always used to say, “With great power comes even greater ambition.”A descendant of the renowned Adler bloodline, it was obvious from the time of my birth that I would have magical talents.
Of course, with great power comes great ambition and, therefore, the need to triumph. My family never lets me forget it.
I was raised to keep people at a distance and having a real friend was practically taboo in our household. My father detests the word and scowls whenever I mention it.
I learned from a very early age that children were to be seen and not heard. Therefore, I took up reading and found it, surprisingly, very dear to me as time passed on. All leisure activities were strictly approved by my father and they didn’t include anything as crude or mundane as “playing with other children." Instead, I used my free time to sharpen my intellect by learning multiple languages, strategizing, learning how to beat my classmates in competitions, and sometimes, very seldom, in conversing with the cute, fluffy kittens in the stables.
My mother would always tell me, “Human relationships make one vulnerable. Don’t give others power over you.” I always followed her teachings dutifully and unquestioningly. Perhaps a little too well. Everyone I met became an acquaintance, nothing more. That is if I managed to get acquainted at all.
That’s why I’m always alone.
Not that I mind. At all. There’s a reason I was sorted into Slytherin, and it was certainly not to make friends.
It was, however, to rise to greatness, fame and glory. To have something to my name. And that, is exactly what I’m going to do.
