Backstory
Hello! My name is Rose Marwick, and I'm adopted. My birth mum Gwendolyn Brevil was only 15 when she had me and was only in her fifth year at Hogwarts and my dad was a douche, so she decided to give me up for adoption. I don't blame her at all. I've never met her before and I don't think I ever will, and that's okay. My adopted parents, Nathan and Melissa Marwick, are my real parents. They raised me from a baby, taught me how to hold a wand, how to ride a broom, how to read the stars. I love them to the ends of the earth.

I'm an only child, and I like it that way. I don't mean to sound selfish at all, but I love how close I am with them because there's only one of me. We live on a very small, very remote island of the north-east coast of Ireland called Rathlin island. Only about 150 people are living there, all magic folk. Everyone knows everyone there and I love how tightly-knit our community is.

Three years ago, I left the island to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and that's where I found my best friend for life. Ava Carlisle. She's from Florida in America and our lives are totally different. She has five brothers and sisters and her parents work for their Ministry of Magic, whereas mine run a bookstore. Every summer, Ava comes to the Island, or I go to Orlando, where she lives. Crazy right?

Ava and I are both Hufflepuffs, just like my dad (my mum was a Ravenclaw) which does mean we are subject to some taunting but Ava, having seven siblings, always knows how to put them in their place. Me? I try to avoid conflict, but I am known to put up one heck of a fight when someone is mean my friends. Aside from Ava, I've two other close friends, Mathais (Matt) Fletchley (a Slytherin) and Kara Erudite ( a Ravenclaw). Matt and I became really good friends in the second year because we were partnered in Herbology class. Kara is such a bookworm so I was always bumping into her at the library and eventually we became study buddies. Ava definitely my best friend though. We're even planning on taking the same subjects for our OWLs. Herbology, astronomy, potions and care of magical creatures.

Ava is definitely more of a planner, whereas I'm more go with the flow. I suppose living on an island where everyone you know is within a 4-mile radius of you, compared to Ava constantly having to look after her younger siblings due to her parents' crazy schedule.

Our lives are very much contrast with each other. Mine is quiet, peaceful and compact on the other hand, hers is chaotic, fast and turbulent. I suppose we balance each other out. Hogwarts is both of our havens; it's a place for me to have some excitement and adventure, and it's a place for her to take a break and relax.
