Backstory

It was a pretty typical Monday when I got the letter. I was born into a Muggle family and raised in a Muggle home. Being the youngest of five, having three older brothers and one older sister, I always wore hand-me-downs and being constantly compared to my older siblings. But I had a temper and a cunning that set me apart from them. I believed in magic. All my life I was told that magic was not real and it was just something in children’s books, that magical creatures and places didn’t exist. But there had always been a part of me that refused to believe it. And that morning I understood why. I was a... witch?! But I didn’t know anything about witchcraft! Then again there was that one time I accidentally mixed up some fruits a berries and let it ferment for six months and it never froze even in the harsh Albertan winter.
Everyone in my family was shocked and my poor mother was a little concerned and they did their best not to encourage me. But for weeks on end, the letters continued until finally, my parents caved, and, escorted by my oldest brother and my mom, I set out to London. We arrived at the Leaky Cauldron on August the 31 at precisely 11 am. My mom and refused to go into "the devils playground" as she had taken to calling Diagon Alley. And my brother was afraid of anything magic for fear it was evil. So equipped with one small suitcase and what courage I could gather, I went alone.
I met several other muggle-borns who welcomed me into the wizarding world openly and helped me get all my supplies!
Then came the sorting. It was horrible. Every one of my friends from Diagon Alley were Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs and when it came down to my turn. Slytherin!? The hat had said so quickly and surely that I had no choice but to join the Slytherin table, but I was not welcome there. That’s where the pure bloods went. They mocked and booed and called at the hat to re-sort me into a more fitting house.
And yet here I am, in my seventh year, and still in Slytherin and I love this house now. It wasn’t easy to adjust for me, but as I settled in I made some strong connections with some of the more open minded pure blood families. And even some of the more closed minded ones have opened their hearts to the Muggle Girl who is most definitely a Slytherin.
